Speak to Southern Water Customer Service

Southern Water is regulated by Ofwat to provide water supply and wastewater treatment services across Kent, Sussex, Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight. The Southern Water area covers around 4,450 square kilometres. Ofwat ensures that Southern Water provides a good quality and efficient service at a reasonable price by setting price limits on what Southern Water can charge while at the same time monitoring the standard of service you receive.

Southern Water completely understands that some customers may experience financial problems and have difficulty paying their utility bills in these difficult economic times an do ffer a number of schemes and services designed to help in these circumstances. The WaterSure scheme allows for a reduction in your water bill if you have a meter and use a large amount of water. Water Direct is a payment scheme for those who are claiming Income Support, Jobseekers Allowance, Employment Support Allowance, or Pension Credit. Whereas
NewStart is a plan for those who are in arrears where they are paying in regular instalments and Southern Water will pay the same amount for you towards your arrears.

Southern Water are undergoing a five year programme until 2015 where they are installing water meters for the majority of their customers. You can still apply to have a meter fitted for free ahead of this metering programme if you wish but you ask Southern Water to fit a meter and you live in an area that is subject to our metering programme you will not be able to go back to an unmetered supply at a later date. Southern Water have developed a range of tariffs for customers who have a meter installed under this programme which gives them time to adapt to the new metered charges and makes sure that bills are affordable.

If you wish to have a water meter fitted by Southern Water the facts are it is completely free, will be fitted within three months of receiving an application and will be positioned normally next to your external stop tap. Once the meter is installed you will be charged for the amount of water you use measured in cubic metres. One cubic metre is equal to 1,000 litres or 220 gallons. In addition you will also be charged for water returned to the sewerage system which has to be treated, finally there will be a charge for reading meters and processing bills (standing charge). generally meters are read twice a year and many customers can in fact save money on their bills with a water meter. How much you can save obviously depends on how careful you are with water and to a certain extent how many people live in your household.
