All customers travelling with Air New Zealand are subject to the Immigration Service's Advance Passenger Screening. This means that travel documents (including passport and any visas) are routinely checked and validated before boarding. All documentation must be valid and up-to-date to avoid delays at check-in or even being prevented from boarding your flight. If you are entering New Zealand on a One-way Ticket you must be either: a New Zealand passport holder, an Australian passport holder, a permanent resident of Australia with valid Australian Resident Return Visa allowing indefinite stay or you must be in possession of a valid New Zealand Returning Resident's Visa. Otherwise, you must possess a return or onward ticket to another country to which you have right of entry.

New Zealand's Immigration policy requires transit visas for all travel through New Zealand with the exception being citizens of New Zealand, Australia or holders of British passports (max permitted stay 6 months).

Air New Zealand operate a scheme called "Airpoints Dollars", allowing customers to choose from any available seat on every Air New Zealand flight, every time. From these flights you can also earn Status Points (the Air New Zealand rewards scheme), in which every Air New Zealand flight can earn points towards Silver, Gold or Gold Elite status. The Air New Zealand Koru membership is essentially a first class service which offers access to world class lounge facilities and other exclusive benefits. In addition to the Star Alliance, Air New Zealand operates an alliance with the Virgin Australia Group, all Koru members will be able to enjoy Virgin Australia lounges when travelling with them domestically in Australia and will also have access to Air New Zealand lounges when flying on code share services operated by Virgin Australia.
